Driven by the increased demand in broadband connectivity, the Middle East and African (MEA) telecoms and media markets are full of opportunities. As of end-2023, the whole industry had over 2.2 billion users, with the mobile segment representing 80% of the total. The OTT video segment recorded the highest annual user growth in 2023, with an 8.5% rate, followed by fixed broadband, 7%, and mobile, 6%. The market generated $125bn in revenue in 2023. Omdia forecasts revenues and the number of users to respectively reach $156bn and 2.7 billion by 2028. As content is constantly generated, mobile data traffic is expected to rise from 74 million TB in 2023 to 232 million TB in 2028. Fiber and 5G networks are key to improving and boosting data usage as well as customer experience.
